The colors in Mexico around nightfall are like a warm blanket next to a roaring fire in the dead of winter. It’s comforting to watch. A change from blue, pink, orange, and finally red across the sky is a spectacular show. I almost enjoy it as much as sitting in front of a campfire. Waiting for the right moment to capture the last light of the sky and the pool completely illuminated is always a treat and well worth the wait. Even better – have a few Tecate beers too... I grew up in a place where the water is rarely warm enough to keep away the goose bumps. I OBVIOUSLY didn’t grow up in Mexico. The ocean, pool, and seaside breeze are consistently a perfect temperature in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This photo needed to have more depth after I examined my first snap of this tiki hut and pool. How does one do this without perspective? You’d be surprised how often tweaking/controlling colors and their intensity/luminosity can create depth within a photo. The shot above is a good example... I’m a fan of tiki bars. Catching a tan, staying cool, being able to buy a beer, meeting other people and gazing out over the ocean kept me close to this exotic looking hut at the end of the Grand Velas’ pool in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I only went in the ocean a few times. Maybe I’m getting old, but it was nice to go on a trip and just relax by the poolside. Puerto Vallarta might have the best sunsets in the world. Situated on the west coast of Mexico, the resorts dotting the beach have the luxury of witnessing unforgettable sunsets every night. The Grand Velas Resort has an enormous pool which at night, becomes still and reflects the amazing colors of the sun setting below the horizon. I don’t know if Puerto Vallarta has ever received bad weather. It’s always a concern when heading to Florida or the Caribbean for a week’s vacation, but Puerto Vallarta’s weather is unbeatable. 80s, warm and a hint of a breeze. I’m sure the perfect weather is a result of it’s location – located on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, hidden in a huge tropical, palm treed bay with enormous hazy mountains dotting the landscape in the background.
