I’ve photographed this point before and haven’t been completely happy with the results.  The Manhattan Bridge itself is impressive, but it dwarfs Manhattan in the background.  It’s also a hard bridge to capture in one shot unless you’re some distance from this monolithic structure.  After studying the site a number of times I began to focus on the colors of the site rather than the structure itself.  The colors in the water’s reflections, the light of distant Manhattan, the dark rocks in the foreground and subtle overcast sky is what this place is all about.  The bridge naturally pulls you back into the photo.  Finding the right light, at the right time, to pull these wonderful colors together is what finally allowed me to capture a photo of the Manhattan Bridge, in New York City’s Dumbo Area, that I am happy with.

    Chris,

I like this picture! Mom and I wandered across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fran on a foggy afternoon just this week and I thought of you and how you would have enjoyed the opportunity for a camera shoot of the Golden Gate Bridge in the wispy fog. Hope all is well.
