The Cinque Terre (five lands) of Italy’s Ligurian coast is made up of tiny medieval towns that have kept their character throughout the centuries. Mostly inaccessible by car, these towns can be reached by a train that tunnels through large areas of the coastline mountain only to emerge at each town station. In between each village are steep cliffs, suitable for wine and olive oil production. Hiking trails connect each town and make for some beautiful panoramas. Pictured above is Monterosso, one of the few towns with a beach. Other villages, such as Vernazza, sits high above the ocean, defiantly grasping the inhospitably rugged coastline that once protected the towns from raiding Turkish Pirates.

Without a doubt, Aruba has some of the the nicest weather I’ve ever encountered. Located 12 degrees north of the equator, everyday is clear and 81 degrees. What makes the temperature perfectly comfortable is the Caribbean warmth cooled to a state of perfection by the West Indies trade winds. In fact, Aruba is known for some of the best kite surfing in the world.

If you’re looking for an island paradise, you don’t have to look much further than the Aruba.

Does anyone use a pay phone anymore? It’s amazing to me that these still exist, however, I would be saddened by their removal. There’s something about their lonely look that makes me notice them every time I walk by the booths in Union Square. When they’re not being used as a urinal stahl, they’re actually quite artistic.

The highland area of Mt. Abu is like a station in the sky. The highland area climbs high above the flat Rajasthani desert. The change in altitude fosters the growth of vegetation not found in most of Rajasthan. It’s a cool relief from the desert and a place where the wealthy escape the heat.

This photo was taken at Sunset Point, Mt. Abu overlooking the Rajasthan landscape.

More like the ‘Yellow Leaf Road’, the trees are shedding their colors fast this year. Timing is never easy. I routinely check the progress of the leaves throughout the end of October. The park isn’t at its peak color phase yet. I’d give it another week.

People always ask how I get the Mall Area, in New York’s Central Park, without people. Wake up early and wait for a rainy day. Cloud cover is better anyways. It reduces the tonal range of the image to range the camera captures more comfortably.

Have you ever wondered where Thousand Island Dressing comes from? Well, it comes from the Thousand Islands area located in the Saint Lawrence River between Canada and the United States. A fishing guides’s wife, Sophia LaLonde, made the condiment as part of her husband’s shore dinner. A well known actress at the time, May Irwin, requested the recipe after tasting it. She in turn gave it to George Boldt, the proprietor for the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. He then instructed the hotel’s maitre d’hotel to put the dressing on the menu – and voila, the world was introduced to a new savory salad dressing.

The photo above is taken from Ynys Craig Island on the Canadian side of the Thousand Island Area.

This photo reminds me of Mickey Mouse in the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Standing on his pedestal, sending the water crashing upwards, he was able to create a dramatic scene of waves crashing up and swirling upwards. I didn’t have a sorcerer’s cap on, nor did I have a magic wand, but the wind patterns were on my side that day on the sunny and vibrant Haast Beach of western New Zealand. Clouds and long exposures are a great way to create movement in your photos.
